It’s been a while since I’ve posted. Just wanted to add a little teaser page for a webcomic I’m going to attempt to do for the Future Perfect stories. This is a rough of the page. Bleak, I know. Lots of swearing, I know. I just tried to think of light-hearted things but this is what I come out with! I’ll also be working on a competition in the meanwhile too.

So yeah, I got back to the UK a couple of days ago now after one long awesome- but exhausting trip to San Francisco. GDC was great, met lots of cool people, some of which I’ve now become contacts with. I’ll probably a huge post about my week over there sometime soon, but with all the contacting and networking I’ve got to do, let alone the portfolio and website alterations I’ve got to make, I might just be too busy for that. So yeah, I’m not sure what’s going to come first, an update for the galleries or a blog entry about the trip but it’ll be something!

GDC2012

So yeah, a tad short notice but I thought I’d go to GDC in San Francisco lol. I’ve booked everything now and I’m getting ready to go!

Even though I’m blowing a considerable chunk outta my savings here, I think that my lack of success with finding a job has just pushed me past my limiter. I’m printing out lots of business cards and I’m doing a pile of research on who’s going to be there but it all started with the news that Konami will have a booth, and that they’re hiring! I don’t think that I’ll necessary succeed with finding a job at GDC either, in fact it’s probably high unlikely I will but at least I will be able to meet and greet many of the companys that produce games I enjoy. I think my realistic target will be to come away with a few contacts. My super-target will be to land a job right there and then!

Since I haven’t been on holiday in a while I thought I’d stick around a couple of extra days to take in a bit of San Francisco. If I visit Alcatraz I think it’s going to be necessary to slot some Hans Zimmer onto my mp3. When I get back from this trip I’ll probably have a huge bundle of photos and stuff to post up! I better brush up my folio a bit more and more prepping!

New Vistas

Well I’ve got a couple of new pics in the Vista gallery like I said I would! One’s a bit mass effect and the others full of crumbling stuff. I was trying some new stuff here and there but now I’m going to work on some character work for a while. It’s been ages since I’ve done something character focused. Another thing I was considering was getting back into 3D modelling as it’s been some time since I’ve even opened up Max. On top of that I’ve been thinking seriously about flying over for the San Francisco GDC…in two weeks… but I’ll have to consider this for another day or two. Jobs! Jobs! Jobs!

Another new pic for the Future Perfect gallery, this time of the T2 in an open hangar. I tried to mix up my style a little as well though it ended up a little bit rough, but seems alright for a concept piece. Now it’s time to have a go at some scenery stuff again though I also feel like doing some character work too. :S We’ll just have to see what comes out when I paint I guess.

Just added a new piece to Future Perfect and it’s been a while since I did something mechanical. I think it turned out alright but I’m going to do a couple more pieces of vehicle work and then I’m going do work on the Vistas and Personas galleries. Still no luck with jobs though, I hope I get something soon before my sleep pattern turns me completely nocturnal!. More to come soon.

Well I’ve added a couple more gameplay mock-ups for the Tales gallery. I rather enjoying doing them. One is conversing with an NPC and the other is a 2D chase scene. I think that both could be done with a slightly different style, but the chase scene in particular could be more stylised as it’s more of a flashback minigame than a fully integrated story section.

Now I’m definitely going to work on the other projects for a while. I’ll post them as I finish them!

EDIT: Removed the pop up notification on the chase scene as I didn’t know the monster name was actually racist until a friend just informed me! Sorry if I offended anyone looking.

MGS HD ULTIMATE!!

Very excited, my copy of MGS HD Limited Edtion just arrived, waking me up from a nap. But it came in a massive box! It’s like actual christmas time without the crap. I’d pre-ordered it long ago when it was first announced and then forgot about it until recently but only when it arrived as I excited. I can’t wait to play them but I was actually looking forward more to the art book which isn’t disappointing since 2/3 of it is new for me I have the art books for MGS 1 and 2 already but the work for 3 and Peace Walker is equally awesome and a great addition to the bookshelf. What was strange though was that they gave me 2 game cases, the regular HD collection and an empty steelcase but boy do I love steelcases so there’s no competition which one is going on my shelf. They also sent me a copy of MGS4 to make up for the change in contents of the limited edition but I’ve already got a signed copy anyway so this one’s going to have to find a new home.

I’m going to have to hold off playing the games for a short while though since I’ve already got Yakuza 4 on the go and Disgaea 4 waiting but I might chuck in a bit of MGS in there anyway. Also working on more art for the site and applying for jobs too so I’m busy enough! Anyway, expect updates to galleries later today maybe. At least this delivery has perked me up for the day. Happy rant over.

Tales+

Just a note to say I’ve added another gameplay mock-up to the Tales gallery. It a world exploration view! I wanted this game to have lots of different gameplay types to match what goes on in the story and to add to the humour as well. There’ll be more to come in this gallery but I think I should return to doing some other projects so that my folio stays varied. Stay tuned.

Tales of Airie

So I’ve been working on some art for a game concept I’m drafting, Tales of Airie. I’ve always wanted to make an RPG with multiple overlapping epic stories. Originally the game was more like full-3D, but as you can see from the gallery it’s now more like a side-scroller. The inspiration came primarily when the FFIX soundtrack played whilst I was painting and I just wanted to recreate something with similar feelings.

Now with Future Perfect, Vistas, Personas and this I think I have plenty of projects to work on without starting another! Lucky(?) for me I don’t have a job to get in the way. Wait. That’s not what I mean. Anyway for all those who visit this site I guess there will be updates on as many of the galleries as I have time to work on.
