A Human Revolution
So I spent the entire weekend on Deus Ex and completed it in the early hours of today. Great fun, great atmosphere and with the exact same inventory system as Resi4, I spent a lot of time rearranging my belongings!
After finishing the game I felt compelled to finish a piece of work which I felt had some resonance, (it’s in the Personas and Portfolio galleries) and I’ve also recently added a gallery for a competition I entered a while ago on DeviantArt as well completing a piece of costume design for the Future Perfect gallery, which is also in the Portfolio.
I’ll probably be back on Deus Ex again in the near future but I’ve got more Lovefilm games incoming so my attention will be split once again. I think I’m also going to try and rework one of my final year pieces to a suitable standard for presentation so watch out for that.
Vittoria agli Assassini! And the revolution arrives.
So yesterday I completed Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood and Portal 2 not too long ago, both as part of my renewed Lovefilm account. I decided that whilst I jobhunt, I’d play the hell out of any games I missed during uni.
I’m glad I got to play both of those titles as they were immense fun. Portal’s bleak industrial atmosphere was great and though some of the puzzles got me for ages, the humour was brilliant.
Brotherhood was also a great game. As I enjoyed the story in the second game, I was happy to see more of Mr Ezio. Since it’s been a long time since the original release of Brotherhood, I had forgotten all the positive reviews. Now I’m very much hyped for the upcoming Revelations, especially as it will delve into both Ezio and Altairs stories a little more. For Brotherhood itself there was so much to do in the game, outside of the main story, I was hooked for many hours. It’s a shame I didn’t try out the multiplayer beyond the tutorial stage but I guess I will do that when Revelations comes around!
I’m looking forward to seeing what Lovefilm deliver next although a giant looms as Deus Ex was just shipped today! So I’m gonna be playing a lot of games over the next week.
Well would you look at that..
After I tried to upgrade my wordpress theme alllllllll of my settings got wiped so I had to sift through lots of code to find the ones I tweaked before! Finally it looks something like the original albeit smoother I reckon.
I’ve not really done a whole lot of work recently in terms of paintings but I have been working on a refit of the iPhone release, made for Facebook so hopefully that will be finished soon. I’m also planning several other projects while the search for a full-time job goes on!
Apocalypse Now
Yesterday, a man got shot in the face, just down the main road. Looting and riots make their way up England like a virus.
Tonight, a gang walks down my street, smashing windows and cars as they go. Luckily they skip ours.
So what does fate have in store for me tomorrow. Hopefully a job in a distant country!
Metal Gear Art
Just a quick gallery update. I just did some quick Metal Gear Solid inspired pieces of the different eras of Snakes. If you’re a fan of the MGS series you’ll probably know which is which quite easily. Enjoy!
I also really like Yoji Shinkawa’s art style and he’s one of the biggest influences on me and part of the reason I wanted to be a game artist. Now I have other ideas about what I want to do but I still really like his work and I might try to use the style in some Future Perfect pieces.

Lovefilm Trial
So, for the last month I’ve been on the Lovefilm trial, got a £20 Amazon voucher (hell yeah!) and played something like 8 games for free.
I’ve been to Afghanistan with Tier 1, kicked some mutants into giant spikey things on a faraway planet. After that I rebelled against the Korean forces on the West Coast before bending time in Russia and killing myself. Shortly after I saved New York from an ass whupping my some squids in armour and fought for Cybertron twice then commanded a special forces squad somewhere in South East Asia before finally punching some ugly aliens and throwing poo around a changing room.
So as you can see I’ve been playing a lot of games on my trial. In between gaming sessions I did a couple of competition pieces and took a design test for an application which I reaaaally hope I pass. It would mean I have an exciting opportunity coming up soon! I really just want to get started with work.
Human Image
The Future Perfect gallery has been updated with some concepts for another story set in its timeline as well as another for the first story. More to come and I’ll eventually split the gallery into sub-galleries based on which stories the images belong to. [Two examples below.]
Time to get working on competition pieces before the deadlines run out though!

E3
Boy do I wish I was there!
Though I missed Microsoft’s conference I did see all the stuff from Konami, Ubi and Sony and daaaaamn I want to get the PSVita now. Even more than that I want Dust! I want to be a merc and nick someone else’s virtual money all for the profit another virtual company! But yeah, there was plenty of amazing stuff shown today/yesterdayamericatime. I guess the biggest shame is that I’m on the hunt for a job and I can’t really afford the money nor time to play everything when it comes out.
There’s a few competitions I’m going to work on and several pieces for the Future Perfect project are almost complete so I’ll hopefully be updating the galleries soon. There just isn’t enough time in day, as you may notice from this 3am post.
Game Republic 2011
A couple of days ago we attended this yesterday at the last minute with our team. It was fun seeing what other courses had made during their final years too. Leeds Met’s setup was pretty nice as well and the free food didn’t hurt
The big thing was the other Huddersfield team, For the Win 7 took home 1st prize in three categories! Best Design, Best Tech and Best Team! Huge Congratulations to them. That’s Chris‘ team, with Goacher and Pollitt there too but I’ve got only web links for the other programmers.
A New Hope
Well, didn’t get into Dare, but nevermind.
Without uni work I’ve managed to find myself a wealth of interesting stuff to do. So over the summer CGHub is running a competition about re-imagining fairytales. With a couple of ideas buzzing around in my head I think I want to enter this! Hopefully it’ll also be a chance to raise my skill level, and be able to spend a lot longer on a piece. Who knows, maybe I’ll create my first masterpiece
Also, having spent a good chunk of the uni year doing videowork I’m very interested in this now so I’ve got the musicman from that project creating very short pieces for me to produce mini-animations, so there’s a couple of these starting up. On top of that I’m now looking for jobs again, and I also feel the need for a luxury holiday! What a summer it’s gonna be.
[I've also added new links, one to CGHub and one to Hyperfield, David Fenn's base (the music man for pretty much all of my projects!)]
