Tales+

Just a note to say I’ve added another gameplay mock-up to the Tales gallery. It a world exploration view! I wanted this game to have lots of different gameplay types to match what goes on in the story and to add to the humour as well. There’ll be more to come in this gallery but I think I should return to doing some other projects so that my folio stays varied. Stay tuned.

Tales of Airie

So I’ve been working on some art for a game concept I’m drafting, Tales of Airie. I’ve always wanted to make an RPG with multiple overlapping epic stories. Originally the game was more like full-3D, but as you can see from the gallery it’s now more like a side-scroller. The inspiration came primarily when the FFIX soundtrack played whilst I was painting and I just wanted to recreate something with similar feelings.

Now with Future Perfect, Vistas, Personas and this I think I have plenty of projects to work on without starting another! Lucky(?) for me I don’t have a job to get in the way. Wait. That’s not what I mean. Anyway for all those who visit this site I guess there will be updates on as many of the galleries as I have time to work on.

Never A Dull Day For Jack

Before I forget I thought I’d attach a couple of shots from an anime short I was attempting to do (before shortly realising that drawing almost every frame would take me many many months of full-time work to finish it!) I think would have been kinda cool, and I’d probably recommit to this project should I not get a job within the next couple of months.

General Update

Well its a new year but not much change here. Instead of making a new gallery I’ve just plopped the two dark warriors into the Personas gallery and I’ve added a new piece to Future Perfect.

I’ve been working on things here and there and applying for jobs too, unsuccessfully so far! But I’ll get there. If anyone in a nice sunny country wants to offer me one please don’t hesitate! I started up a new project, with more design than illustration but I’ll release the gallery once I’ve done a few more pieces for it. The art style is a little more cartoony than my usual affair but it’ll be coming soon.

Dark Warriors

Wel I haven’t updated the site in a little while but I’ve been busy with the mega huge amount of games coming out lately and making my applications for jobs. I have no idea where I’m going to end up working but I hope I do pick up a job within the next few of months.

I’m working on several new pieces at the moment, trying to improve myself a bit more and add some variation in subject matter into my paintings so there will be a new gallery opened soon titled Dark Warriors, with a cast of characters inspired by my currently on-hold run through Dark Souls and it’s predecessor Demon’s Souls. I absolutely love the design in those games and I think it’s rubbed off on me a bit as the new pics will show. I’m also thinking of painting some Uncharted fan-art, having just finished the game I immediately thought I’d like to paint Talbot! I’m still working on additions for the other galleries too, so I guess I’ll be plenty busy.

Anyway, look out for new work coming soon.

A New View

There is a new gallery page: Vistas. Just like Personas was for characters that didn’t really belong to a project, Vistas is for projectless environments and scapes. I waited until I had at least 4 images before I opened the gallery otherwise it wouldn’t have really been much of one but these are the works I’ve been doing for the past two weeks.

I think that I’m enjoying painting environments much more nowadays and I’m improving, which was the point of the exercise. Hopefully there’ll be more to come soon but I have so many different things I wish to do it’s difficult to choose the priorities. There’s a few new character paintings I’ve been working on too so they’ll be added soon.

PS. juggling jobhunting, gaming and art is a difficult task :P

Dodge Foot

Breaking news. Dodgefoot has just been released. Go play it on Facebook now for free.

This is the new revamped version of the original developed at x48, featuring 3 modes, a highscores table and nothing else!

Well it’s not too shabby a game for those of us who worked on it this summer. It was the programmers’ first go on Unity and Facebook integration. There’s several things that are missing that I would have really liked to have seen but due to time limits and other constraints we just weren’t able to add them. The original XnA version had local multiplayer which was the highlight really but multiplayer on Facebook was beyond the scope of this release. Also, the obligatory achievements is missing too. I kinda reckon that would have added a little more lifespan to the game.

Anyway I’m still proud of this release. Thanks to Barnaby for bringing the project together.

A Human Revolution

So I spent the entire weekend on Deus Ex and completed it in the early hours of today. Great fun, great atmosphere and with the exact same inventory system as Resi4, I spent a lot of time rearranging my belongings!

After finishing the game I felt compelled to finish a piece of work which I felt had some resonance, (it’s in the Personas and Portfolio galleries) and I’ve also recently added a gallery for a competition I entered a while ago on DeviantArt as well completing a piece of costume design for the Future Perfect gallery, which is also in the Portfolio.

I’ll probably be back on Deus Ex again in the near future but I’ve got more Lovefilm games incoming so my attention will be split once again. I think I’m also going to try and rework one of my final year pieces to a suitable standard for presentation so watch out for that.

Vittoria agli Assassini! And the revolution arrives.

So yesterday I completed Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood and Portal 2 not too long ago, both as part of my renewed Lovefilm account. I decided that whilst I jobhunt, I’d play the hell out of any games I missed during uni.

I’m glad I got to play both of those titles as they were immense fun. Portal’s bleak industrial atmosphere was great and though some of the puzzles got me for ages, the humour was brilliant.

Brotherhood was also a great game. As I enjoyed the story in the second game, I was happy to see more of Mr Ezio. Since it’s been a long time since the original release of Brotherhood, I had forgotten all the positive reviews. Now I’m very much hyped for the upcoming Revelations, especially as it will delve into both Ezio and Altairs stories a little more. For Brotherhood itself there was so much to do in the game, outside of the main story, I was hooked for many hours. It’s a shame I didn’t try out the multiplayer beyond the tutorial stage but I guess I will do that when Revelations comes around!

I’m looking forward to seeing what Lovefilm deliver next although a giant looms as Deus Ex was just shipped today! So I’m gonna be playing a lot of games over the next week.

Well would you look at that..

After I tried to upgrade my wordpress theme alllllllll of my settings got wiped so I had to sift through lots of code to find the ones I tweaked before! Finally it looks something like the original albeit smoother I reckon.

I’ve not really done a whole lot of work recently in terms of paintings but I have been working on a refit of the iPhone release, made for Facebook so hopefully that will be finished soon. I’m also planning several other projects while the search for a full-time job goes on!
